The Centre for Translation and Interpreting at Queen's University Belfast offers two MA programmes: MA Translation and MA Interpreting. Our students come from all over the world and our classrooms are multilingual and multicultural environments leading to lively and challenging debates. Both courses equip graduates with the skills and experience needed to become a language professional or go on to further study at PhD level.

Our MA Translation programme is available to students with all language combinations and combines theoretical courses with weekly practical workshops led by either QUB staff or professional translators, depending on the language combination.

Our MA Interpreting programme covers key issues in the theory and practice of liaison, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. It is only open to students with Chinese-English as their language combination

In 2018 decided to invest in professional conference interpreting technology to really enhance the student experience ready for the real world of conference interpreting. The system should combine the latest hardware, software and on-line technology to be for both today's and tomorrows students. After detailed research there was one obvious stand out candidate,  Sanako Study 1200 Conference Interpreting System. This advanced system can combine hardware and software elements to give the total blended learning package for conference interpreter training lessons.

Director of Graduate Studies, Piotr Blumczynski, adds:

“The School is delighted with the new suite which was designed especially for our needs. We have seen an improvement in terms of tutors being able to be more effective in their teaching. The equipment is of excellent quality and the software is enhancing the value of the interpreting programme. We look forward to seeing current students thrive as a result of the suite, and introduce new students to the technology next academic year.”

Lecturer in Translation and Interpreting, Chen-En Ho, adds:

"I use the suite frequently with my students who interpret English/ Mandarin".

“The new suite is a huge improvement – I am already noticing a big difference. It offers great authenticity, which is excellent for our students who can build up their knowledge while learning in a setting that reflects the working environment. I also really like the software – it provides me with significant flexibility, helping me to create customised lesson plans and support each student on an individual level. We are now exploring the on-line options also which really takes things to the next level of conference interpreter training.”
